Pelvic Floor Investigation Group [PFIG]

The Pelvic Floor Investigation Group at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is a research group working to improve the understanding and treatment of pelvic floor disorders. We have two major areas of focus:

  • discovering the basic mechanism underlying the problem of pelvic floor disorders and
  • putting the knowledge into practice with cutting-edge strategies for prevention and treatment of these common and distressing conditions

The PFIG is an interdisciplinary assemblage of providers and researchers. We focus on four research areas:

  • using advanced 3D Pelvic Floor imaging of the pelvic floor to study the details of pelvic floor injury in women with incontinence and prolapse
  • developing innovative technologies for improving the assessment of pelvic floor muscle strength and urethral function

Randle M. Gallucci, Ph.D
Dr. Gallucci received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the Washington State University College of Pharmacy and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the NIH and CDC focusing on inflammatory damage and repair from toxic chemicals.  In September of 2000, Dr. Gallucci accepted a faculty position at the OU Health Sciences Center College of Pharmacy and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.  Dr. Gallucci’s research interests concern the varied roles that inflammation plays in damage and healing.  Specifically his laboratory is investigating how sex differences may influence damage and regenerative processes in skin, liver, and muscle.  He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles, and his research efforts are currently funded by the CDC/NIOSH and OCAST.

Justin North, MD
Dr. North is an Assistant professor of Radiology at OUHSC with special interest in pelvic floor imaging.  He obatined his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and MD from the University of Oklahoma.  He did his radiology residency and fellowship in Body Imaging at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

ROBERT A. WILD, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H.
Is Professor of Reproductive Endocrinology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medicine & Biostatistics and Epidemiology. He is an experienced clinician and investigator with a focus on primary prevention strategies for women combining Gynecology and Preventive Cardiology in Women’s Health.  He has devoted more than 30 years to patient care, research and higher education by teaching Medical Students, Residents, Masters and PhD students. Dr. Wild is a graduate of the University Of Missouri School Of Medicine.  He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Boston Hospital for Women Harvard Medical School.  He received his PhD degree in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics . He has been an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology for 20 years.  He is a board certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist, Reproductive Endocrinologist, Clinical Lipidologist and Menopause Practitioner. He is consistently listed in Best Doctors in Oklahoma, Guide to America’s Best Obstetricians/Gynecologists and Best Doctors in America.

He has held leadership positions and/or is a member in all of the major societies in his specialty.  He is past president of the American Society of Preventive Cardiology, the Society of Reproductive Endocrinologists, and the Oklahoma City Obstetrical and Gynecological Society and past council member of the Society of Gynecologic Investigation. He serves on national committees for the North American Menopause Society, the National Lipid Association (South West Board of Directors) , and the NIH. He is an active reviewer for the National Institute of Health serving regularly on many Study Section and Review panels for the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development – both for the extramural and intramural branches - the National Institutes on Aging and the Office of Research on Women’s Health  . He is the only gynecologist to have received a Preventive Cardiology Award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. He advises the Office of Women’s Health Research (ORWH) at the National Institutes of Health and the NHLBI.

Dr. Wild is published widely in and reviews for numerous journals. He serves on editorial boards for:   Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, Journal of the Society of Gynecological Investigation, Journal of Women’s Health, Menopause Practice, Menopause, New England Journal of Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Preventive Cardiology, Fertility and Sterility, and Clinical Lipidology. He is the biostatistics reviewer for the journal Menopause. His research interests include primary prevention strategies for women with a focus on lipids and the vascular system, reproductive endocrinology (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Endometriosis), sex steroids, lipoprotein lipids and cardiovascular diseases. He remains active clinically and teaches and practices and performs research in Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility, Clinical Lipidology, Reproductive Epidemiology and Evidence Based Practice at the University of Oklahoma. He has been or is a PI on over 50 grants from NIH, OCAST, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association and Pharma.

Dee Wu, PhD
Associate Professor and Section Chief of Technology Application Development and Translational Research in Radiological Sciences, with adjunct appointments in neuroscience and radiation oncology.
He received a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University and has 11 granted patents and over 20 publications/book chapters in both industrial and academic settings. The research activities in his lab may be summarized into 3 groups: 1) development of methods to increase the clinical efficiency of the medical facilities and the exchange of information; 2) identification, characterization and validation of imaging biomarkers; and 3) improvement to instrumentation and the corresponding physical understanding of underlying phenomenology in the progression of disease. Dr. Wu works closely with several bioinformatics groups at OUHSC Oklahoma City and OU Norman campuses. His section correlates anatomical, physiological, cellular, and molecular processes associated with the presence and severity of disease. This information is used to improve efficiency of imaging instrumentation and to develop databases and workflow structures to promote biomedical informatics standardization.
